Wiz Khalifa was arrested in Romania on July 14 on illegal drug possession charges.
The Pittsburgh rapper was found with “over 18 grams” of cannabis, according to the translated official press release from the Directorate for the Investigation of Organized Crime and Terrorism in Romania.
Cannabis is considered a “risk drug” in Romania, and possession of it is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
“It was noted that he [Khalfia], during a music festival held in the Costinești resort, Constanța county, possessed over 18 grams of cannabis (risk drug) and consumed (on stage) another amount of cannabis under the shape of a craft cigarette,” the translated press releases states. ” We make it clear that, during the entire criminal process, the investigated persons benefit from the procedural rights and guarantees provided by the Code of Criminal Procedure, as well as the presumption of innocence.”
He was arrested for illegal drug possession but was later released from custody.
The Pennsylvania rapper performed at the ” Beach, Please! ” music festival, which featured other popular artists, including rappers NLE Choppa, Rick Ross, and Lil Pump.
Video on X shows livestream footage from the festival of the rapper smoking on stage. In the video, the DJ for the event can be heard shouting, ” Who wants to get high with Wiz Khalifa tonight!” as the camera then pans to a closeup of the rapper smoking.
Khalifa made a statement via X on July 14 apologizing for the incident and sharing that he’d be back again but without the cannabis next time.
“Last night’s show was amazing. I didn’t mean any disrespect to the country of Romania by lighting up on stage. They were very respectful and let me go. I’ll be back soon. But without a big [expletive] joint next time.”
