A travel expert has slammed a popular holiday resort for being “filled with rude locals” and “crowded” beaches.
Kristoffer Fons, who documents his travels on his Destination Well Known YouTube channel, says the Italian island of Sardinia “never really clicked” with him. Kristoffer says he struggled to find food he liked and was put-off by the beaches.
The picturesque island, which is the second-largest in the Mediterranean Sea, is known for its rolling beaches, turquoise sea, and its Mediterranean cuisine.
It has the joint-highest rate of centenarians, along with Osaka in Japan, and was one of the world’s first blue zones – locations where people live statistically longer.
Former travel agent Kristoffer however says that while he wouldn’t tell people to avoid the island, which is home to the city of Cagliari, he didn’t enjoy his own experience there.
Speaking in a YouTube video, he said: “I know Sardinia is supposed to be one of the most beautiful places in all of Europe, and I’m sure there will be a few Italians telling me I went to all the wrong places and did everything wrong, and you might be right, but Sardinia never really clicked for me.
“Sardinia, to me, seemed exactly like the internet wants to believe Majorca is. Filled with rude locals who don’t really want tourists there.
“I’ve been all over Italy and I love the food just like everybody else does, but I really struggled to find good Italian food in Sardinia even though I did a lot of research beforehand.
“The beaches are what makes this island so famous, but it was just hard work getting to a lot of the best beaches and those that we got to were just so crowded even though we went in June, which is not supposed to be the high season.”
For anyone wanting an Italian escape, Kristoffer says Rome is the “ultimate city for aimless wandering” and a “perfect place to get lost”.
He said: “Because Rome is basically a giant open air museum, you’ll be looking for a coffee shop and just casually walk past a 2,000 year old temple, no big deal, just casual Roman stuff.
“Of course, it is a good idea to have a sense of what direction you are going and what you want to see on your trip to Rome but the best way to experience this city is to just pick a direction and walk.
“There’s a good chance you’ll stumble across these tiny piazzas with fountains that would be major tourist attractions anywhere else, but in Rome, they’re kind of just there.”
