The standard iced coffee order will differ depending on where you go. The Spanish latte is the top order in Singapore, while the iced vanilla latte is the top order in countries like Bulgaria and Luxembourg. But no matter what the most popular coffee order is—where is the best place you can get a cup of coffee on vacation this summer? If you’re traveling through Europe, I have some answers for you.
Ubuy has conducted some fairly thorough research to determine the best European capitals for coffee. The list is composed of the top European coffee capitals in the continent and is based on the number of coffee shops in each city, the number of hours of sunshine versus rainfall (to determine how much time you can have to sip coffee outside), and the cost of a single cup of coffee.
“Seeing global cafés and coffee shops allows you to discover more about the culture of Europe’s wonderful cities, and it’s great for doing so off the traditional tourist track,” Faizan Khan, spokesperson for Ubuy, said in a statement to Thrillist. “As well as this, wanting to learn more about European coffee culture could take you to capital cities you may not have ever considered going to before. We hope this research changes that!”
So, where are these top cities you have to hit during your European summer? Athens, Greece came in first place. There are 404 local coffee shops and 1,080 hours of sunshine from June to August, making Athens a great place to find and enjoy a cup of coffee. Shortly behind Athens is Lisbon, Portugal where you can find a cup of coffee for an average of $2.04. Rome, Italy comes in third place, with 405 coffee shops, 915 hours of sunshine, and an average cup of coffee costing just $1.89.
