PHILADELPHIA – La Salle basketball class of 2018 alumnus B.J. Johnson has signed with Russian professional club, Lokomotiv Kuban, the team announced Thursday. Johnson has spent the last three years playing with EuroLeague teams in Spain and Russia after spending three seasons with various NBA organizations.
Johnson most recently played with Russian club BC Parma where he averaged 18.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.7 steals, and 1.3 assists while seeing the floor for 32 minutes per game. Johnson truly stood out during the month of January, averaging 22.8 points and 7.2 rebounds en route to being named league Player of the Month. The Lower Merion native began his professional career with the Lakeland Magic of the NBA G-League coming out of La Salle. He spent time on several NBA rosters, including the Atlanta Hawks, Sacramento Kings, Orlando Magic, and Miami Heat before electing to continue his career overseas. He began his EuroLeague career in 2021 with Real Betis of Spain where he averaged 11.1 points and 5.1 rebounds over 39 games.
The wing arrived at La Salle in 2015 after spending his first two seasons at Syracuse. Following the 2016-17 campaign, he was named First Team All-Big 5 and Second Team NABC All-District while leading the team in both points (17.6) and rebounds (6.3). His senior season was one of the best an Explorer has had in recent memory. Johnson led the Big 5 in scoring and was third in the Atlantic-10 (20.8 ppg). He scored in double-figures in all 27 games he played in to help garner First Team All-Big 5, Second Team All-Atlantic 10, and Second Team NABC All-District honors.
