Marbella Basketball Club are celebrating their 50th anniversary in 2025, making them the longest-established basketball club in the Malaga province.
Club de Baloncesto Marbella (CB Marbella) was founded in 1975, and notably, the club has been fundamental in the development of players who have advanced to professional levels, such as Carlos Cabezas and Alfonso Sánchez, both of whom were champions in league and cup competitions.
Alfonso Sánchez also represented Spain internationally in youth categories. Another notable player developed by the club is Rubén Guerrero, who is currently an international player for Granada ACB. Alfonso Sánchez now serves as the club’s vice president, exemplifying the CB Marbella’s enduring legacy and commitment to nurturing up-and-coming talent.
In the 2021/22 season, CB Marbella reached the semifinals for promotion to LEB Oro, showing their drive, passion, and capacity to compete for a place in the second division of Spanish basketball. Earlier in the club’s history, during the beginnings of Liga EBA, Marbella competed in what was then the second division of Spanish basketball. More recently, in 2024, CB Marbella achieved a significant milestone by winning the Supercopa Diputación de Málaga in an exciting final against Unicaja Andalucía.
CB Marbella operates with a professional structure, fielding a senior team in national competitions. The club places great importance on its youth academy, which collaborates with Marbella Basket to ensure young athletes get the best possible training.
The team play at the Carlos Cabezas Pavilion, Camino Cristo de los Molinos, Marbella, and this season, they look like they are going up. Currently, as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations, free entry to matches allows you to see them without having to buy a ticket. They want their games to be accessible and enjoyable for the entire community, creating an atmosphere where everyone is welcome.
