IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol and European Commissioner for Energy and Housing Dan Jørgensen have announced they will co-host the 10th Annual Global Conference on Energy Efficiency in Brussels, Belgium, on June 12-13, 2025. The event will bring together ministers, business leaders, and industry representatives to accelerate global action on energy efficiency, with a primary focus on achieving the international goal of doubling energy efficiency progress this decade.
IEA’s latest analysis highlights that current efforts are falling short of this target, emphasizing the need for stronger policies in sectors such as buildings, industry, and transport. The conference will also explore how energy efficiency can enhance industrial competitiveness and improve energy affordability for households and businesses, offering a platform for impactful discussions and solutions. The IEA and the European Commission are jointly organizing the event to explore how governments can transform ambitious energy efficiency targets into actionable policies and attract on-the-ground investments for both emerging and advanced economies. The 10th Global Conference is held in collaboration with the Energy Efficiency Movement, a global initiative dedicated to scaling up the adoption of energy-efficient solutions across industries.
“The current rate of progress in energy efficiency is disappointingly slow, given the critical role it can play in improving energy security, reducing energy costs and lowering emissions,” said Dr Birol. “The 10th edition of the IEA’s Annual Global Conference on Energy Efficiency, which we will cohost with the European Commission, will provide an opportunity for key stakeholders from across the globe to come together to assess what can be done to speed up improvements in energy efficiency.”
