Copenhagen Fashion Week is a refreshing contrast to the bustling streets of other European fashion showcases — not to mention the week-long affair is focused more on innovative, forward-thinking designs than splashy, viral moments. Some industry leaders and fashion-inclined individuals are now categorizing it as one of the five most prominent fashion weeks out there, and the recently-concluded Autum/Winter 2025 showcase is a great example why.

Not only does each brand present collections that are infused with a sense of imagination, but each must also satisfy CPHFW’s intentional set of sustainability standards. The street style speaks for itself too. Attendees can be spotted taking over the downtown neighborhoods with unique layered looks, print-mixing that scratches the brain and top-tier tailoring. These Scandinavian style codes have even begun to permeate far beyond the Northern European city, so their impact isn’t to be ignored.

As runway shows and presentations proceeded, other happenings also took over the city. Collaborations were celebrated with intimate dinners, such as those of NN.07 x SLOP Magazine and NAKED CPH x Nike AirMax, and Northern Europe’s largest fashion fair, CIFF, brought visibility to both global and local Danish brands taking over the scene. There was plenty of action, but among all the goings-on a few moments stood above the rest.

Last season, Deadwood debuted a range of looks that oozed cool, leaning into the indie-sleaze revival and continuing to incorporate found materials as well as upcycled discarded fabric. This season, the brand took guests out to sea. On a pleasant Tuesday — there was a chill in the air, but the city was abuzz with CPHFW attendees and residents perched on bikes — CPH’s Villa Hotel terrace was covered with a post-rain dew. But the sun was peaking through the clouds and the forecast predicted no precipitation. Guests could be heard questioning the light moisture, but when the show began, those questions were quickly answered.

Models strutted down a long runway that was actually the hotel’s lap pool, before cascading across the terrace’s deck that had been purposely sprayed with water for that “just rained” look. Every look embodied an undone, “shipwrecked” look, showing off crooked ties, asymmetrical button-downs, distressed tees and silhouettes that flowed like water. But perhaps the star of the show was the brand’s latest collab with Tretorn: rubber rain boots. Most of the models sported these boots as they marched through the lap pool or across slippery surfaces.

“Of course, sustainability remains at the core. Upcycled leather, salvaged textiles and repurposed materials shape the collection,” said co-creative director Carl Ollson, “‘Uncharted’ is like a venture into the depths of the unknown. Maritime lore and the calls of the sirens at sea. It paid tribute to the seafarers who have braved the cold, wet, wild waters throughout history.”

Back for their third collaboration, NN.07 and SLOP Magazine reinterpreted the Danish label’s Deon shirt. Presenting a classic button-up with a twist, this release maintains the shirt’s crisp, clean lines but infuses it with playful motifs and detailed embroidery. Inspired by SLOP’s produce-first ethos, the two decided to use the artichoke as a source of inspiration. The vegetable can be used in many ways in the kitchen and beyond, and, additionally, the brands wanted to highlight bridging the gap between the agricultural and fashion industries.

“We were thrilled to collaborate with SLOP Magazine during Copenhagen Fashion Week once again,” said Gustav Emil Loft, NN.07’s PR manager. “The collaboration embodies the NN.07 spirit, and we are happy to create moments of joy for our combined audiences, providing great products and diving into the world of produce and food culture.”

As always, Marimekko painted the runway with whimsical prints and creative color combinations. On January 30 at Vilhelm Lauritzen Terminal, the collection took flight, breathing life into an otherwise simple, mundane location. It was characterized by neutral-toned bomber jackets, Maridenim — Marimekko’s responsible denim which debuted on the runway last season and frocks, matching knit sets and flowing skirts that showed off the brand’s emblematic Unikko print.

The Fall/Winter 2025 collection was inspired by the interconnected relationship between art, architecture and fashion. So it only seemed fitting to host the runway affair in the Copenhagen airport’s formerly public Terminal 1, designed by Danish functionalist architect Vilhelm Lauritzen in the ’30s. The range represented a departure from the exuberant colors that usually encapsulate Marimekko’s offerings, as this time Creative Director Rebekka Bay opted for subtle color combos and monochromatic looks reminiscent of dark winter evenings.

“Marimekko’s Fall/Winter 2025 collection explores the dialogue between light and dark, with color providing an interjection of joy,” said Bay. “The Vilhelm Lauritzen terminal felt like the perfect backdrop for the dualism that we play with this season, but it also reflects the modernist and functionalist design thinking that Marimekko has always embraced.”

Henrik Vibskov took us to the theater for the brand’s Autumn/Winter 2025 show. Guests filed into the Theater Republique on January 29 and were met with an elaborate stage setting. The stage itself took the form of a large table, decorated with a wide-spanning white cloth strewn with instruments and remnants of an elaborate meal. In front of the stage sat a large form obstructed by an opaque sheet of plastic. Before the show began, an individual appeared from backstage and pulled the plastic back, revealing two drummers (one of which was Vibskov himself) and their instruments underneath. As models began to fill the runway, a full band appeared, providing the background music and giving guests a true show.

The collection, “A Bit Overwhelmed by the Opaue Resonance,” explored the interplay between humanity and the natural world. Each look had an athletic vibe — an essence that was informed by extreme sports and the ways that these activities toy with our idea of domineering nature. Colorful prints mimicked natural landscapes, like snowy mountain ranges or symmetrical tree ring patterns. Standout pieces included large technical outerwear, chunky knit sweaters (which Vibskov layered to the max) and printed trousers.

For this season’s Baum und Pferdgarten collection, presented on January 29, creative directors Rikke Baumgarten and Helle Hestehave wanted to present something from the heart. The range, titled, “Heartbeats,” embraced a sense of carefree individuality and celebrated the thrills of life. The collection was inspired by the serenity of the British countryside, contrasted with the expressiveness of retro trends. Last season, the brand brought forth an inviting collection of tactile textiles and inviting textures. This carried over into the Autumn/Winter 2025 assortment, as bold silhouettes displayed mixed and matched prints, shining embellishments and rich knits.

Nods to classic British tailoring appeared in certain pieces, like the Harrington jacket, while others took on more unconventional shapes and forms, like casual, slouchy suiting, patterned trench coats and effortless wardrobe staples elevated by playful adornments like sequins.

Bringing brands together from far and wide, CIFF (short for Copenhagen International Fashion Fair) has changed the landscape of fashion fairs for decades to come. Undergoing its 64th edition, the global hub brought over 1,200 brands to the forefront of the fashion scene during CPHFW from January 28-30 — including A. Roege Hove, Chimi, Fine Chaos and more. This is not your traditional trade show. CIFF swaps gray booths and stale venues for a vibrant showcase that displays some of the hottest, cutting-edge brands in Denmark and beyond.

CIFF strives for creativity and innovation with each bi-annual event, which usually includes interactive elements such as sustainability education booths, panel discussions and more. Acting as a counterpart to the runway shows that occur during the week, CIFF has changed the game when it comes to brand discovery and inspiring consumers and buyers to interact with brands face-to-face.

NAKED CPH and Nike Celebrated the Release of the Air Max Muse

NAKED Copenhagen has been one of the region’s most coveted sneaker suppliers since 2004. Coming off of a partnership with adidas last season, where the brand debuted a special-edition Samba adorned with lace stripes, the brand teamed up with Nike to run it back for the Autumn/Winter 2025 season.

OpéraSPORT revealed its latest collection on January 27 at the Lapidarium of Kings, a 400-year-old setting that echoed the collection’s homage to royalty and Art Deco design. The venue, which acted as a brewhouse for King Christian IV, allowed guests to step into the past, as it housed a collection of over 300 intricate statues and sculptures collected from Denmark’s royal gardens, palaces and buildings.

Founders Stephanie Gundelach and Awa Malina Stelter wanted the collection to radiate a sense of regality, inspired by the grand shapes and forms of the Art Deco period — but they also wanted to maintain wearability throughout the range. Models made their way down the runway in co-ord suiting, versatile cargo pants, faux fur outerwear and romantic motifs, such as rose prints and appliques. But the most surprising part of the show could be found on foot, as the models showed off the Puma Speedcat Ballet and Puma H-Street, which were unveiled exclusively on the runway.
