Finland has the seventh highest prices in the EU, according to a European consumer price comparison.

In 2023, consumer prices in Finland were the seventh highest in Europe, 24 percent above the EU average, reports Statistics Finland.

Finland rose to the top five most expensive countries for alcoholic beverages, tobacco, transport services, as well as restaurants and hotels. Energy prices were, however, reasonably low compared with many other European countries. The price level of food was the same in Finland as in Estonia, according to Statistics Finland, which compiled the Finnish price data.

Last year, price levels for consumer goods and services differed widely across Europe, according to statistics body Eurostat. The agency found Denmark to have the highest price level, 43 percent above the EU average, while in Bulgaria and Romania, the price level was 40 percent below the bloc’s average.

Among non-EU members, prices were the lowest in Turkey and highest in Switzerland.

The price data is based on a comparison of 36 countries coordinated by the EU’s statistical authority, Eurostat.
