The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) have formalized their dedication to enhancing collaboration by signing a Declaration of Intent aimed at strengthening their partnership for ensuring the safety and security of civil aviation. This renewed commitment was a key topic of discussion between FAA and EASA officials during the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Chicago Convention, hosted by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
“Aviation safety and modernization is a joint effort that requires collaboration with our international partners,” said FAA Administrator Mike Whitaker. “Emerging technologies are transforming the global aviation system and require constant collaboration to reevaluate and adapt our strategic direction as new challenges and opportunities present themselves. Efforts like this Declaration of Intent help bring it all together.”
“Building on the EU-US Agreement on cooperation in the regulation of civil aviation safety, this Declaration of Intent will generate a new momentum in our EASA-FAA relationship and allow for better alignment on the priorities voiced by the global aeronautical industry,” said Florian Guillermet, Executive Director of EASA.
As part of the Declaration, the FAA and EASA have committed to exchanging expertise and best practices in areas such as safety data analysis, risk management, cybersecurity, emerging technologies, innovation, research, and sustainability. They also aim to align regulatory approaches wherever feasible. Additionally, both agencies will work together to deliver technical support and assistance to various regions worldwide.
