The headline transfer of the summer anywhere in the world sees Paris St-Germain’s all-time top goalscorer Kylian Mbappe move to Real Madrid on a free transfer.
The 25-year-old scored 256 goals in seven years at PSG, having netted 27 goals for his first senior club Monaco. He has also scored 48 international goals, winning the 2018 World Cup and scoring a hat-trick in the 2022 final.
He won six consecutive Ligue 1 Golden Boots and was the fourth top scorer in any of Europe’s top flights last season.
While Ligue 1 to La Liga is an undoubted step up, the fact Mbappe has scored 48 Champions League goals shows he is capable of scoring against elite opposition too.
BBC Sport understands he will earn £12.8m (15m euros) a season, plus a £128m (150m euros) signing-on bonus to be paid over five years, and he will keep a percentage of his image rights.
He joins Brazil striker Endrick, who has just turned 18, at the club, although that deal was agreed in December 2022.
