European far-right and rightwing parties have held a large gathering in Spain. They pressed governments to follow in the footsteps of US President Donald Trump’s administration under the slogan “Make Europe Great Again.”
About 2,000 people participated in the event in Madrid on Saturday. They included politicians from Spain, France, Italy and other countries who belong to the same voting bloc in the European Parliament.
Marine Le Pen of France’s National Rally and Santiago Abascal of Spain’s Vox party took the stage, voicing strong approval of Trump’s immigration and other policies. They also called for similar changes in Europe.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban retains good ties with the US leader. He said, “The Trump tornado has changed the world in just a few weeks.” He added that “yesterday we were heretics, today we’re mainstream.”
A participant described the gathering as very hopeful. She said all European patriots expect a change of course in Europe.
A European Parliament lawmaker belonging to the Vox party said the Trump administration has been pushing many measures. He added that to make Europe great again is to regain freedom, security and prosperity.
