EU to slap extra tariffs on Chinese EVs | NHK WORLD-JAPAN News
The European Union is set to impose additional tariffs on electric vehicles made in China, saying its EV makers get unfair subsidies from the government.
The European Commission said on Tuesday that extra tariffs of up to 35.3 percent will be imposed on top of the existing duties of 10 percent starting on Wednesday.
The commission that oversees EU trade policy says such Chinese practices could pose a threat to European businesses.
The new measures will continue for five years unless a review is initiated before that.
The EU plans to continue negotiating with China, saying it remains open to “a possible alternative solution.”
Meanwhile, China imposed provisional tariffs on brandy imported from EU member countries in October.
Beijing is also investigating whether prices of pork and dairy products from the EU are kept unfairly low.
