The European football season is winding down, culminating in the UEFA Champions League final on June 1, meaning some clubs will already be drawing up plans for 2024/25.
The transfer window does not open for most of the major global leagues until at least part way through June, when there is the added complication of the Euro 2024 and Copa America tournaments to consider. Trying to balance squad building and preseason preparations alongside players representing their countries is going to be a headache for many of the world’s top clubs.
With that in mind, plenty will attempt to get much of their business done as early as possible in the next window, and players and their agents will already be holding discussions. We know that Kylian Mbappe is leaving Paris Saint-Germain (and is likely to join Real Madrid), while Raphael Varane will be another in-demand free agent after announcing his departure from Manchester United. You can also expect plenty more big spending by clubs in the English Premier League and Saudi Pro League.
Here, The Sporting News looks at the opening and closing dates for the next transfer window in 2024 among some of the major leagues in the world.

The next transfer window — officially the FIFA-designed “registration period” — has different opening and closing dates depending on the league concerned.
For example, England’s Premier League will open its transfer window on June 14 and close it at the end of August, but the big-spending Saudi Pro League starts its registration period a month later and runs it until October. That means Saudi teams would be able to sign players from English clubs after the Premier League transfer deadline.
That will likely cause some difficulty in negotiations between Saudi clubs and those whose windows close earlier, as they will not want to sell players at a time when they are unable to sign replacements.
Below are the key dates for some of the world’s major leagues.
Here are the provisional transfer window periods. However, each individual league has to confirm exact opening and closing dates, and so these dates are subject to change.
Europe’s top leagues tend to synchronize their schedules to close their windows on the same day. We already know that the major European leagues will all close their windows on Friday, August 30th to “harmonize” their schedules.
