The Hoops recorded one of the highest pre-tax profits on the continent while Gers made top 20 for gate receipts
A new UEFA report has ranked Celtic in the top ten most profitable clubs in Europe.
UEFA‘s European Club Finance and Investment Landscape Report was published on Thursday. President Aleksander Ceferin describes it as the “ultimate guide to the European football finances” and it makes for excellent reading, particularly for the Parkhead bean counters. The Hoops reported one of the ten largest pre-tax profits on the continent for 2024. While the £17.6million figure represents a drop from a massive £39.3m in 2023, it’s still enough to place them seventh in the list alongside Europa League winners Atalanta. with Bayern Munich leading the way.
Successive Champions League campaigns have proved lucrative, with prize money and TV revenue pouring into the Parkhead coffers. But that is backed up with a strong player trading model, which has seen two record £25m moves in Jota to Al Ittihad (now back) and Matt O’Riley to Brighton.
Rangers also ranked in the report, with the Light Blues making the top 20 for gate revenue. The Ibrox club banked £44.4million from punters coming through the Ibrox turnstiles in 2024, which is pn a par with Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund.
Gers actually dropped one place in the list to 19th. But their numbers are well up on last year’s total of £30.1m, representing a 47 per cent jump. And it’s a massive increase over a deace, with Rangers reporting gate revenues of £15m in 2014, when of course they were in the Championship.
No doubt the earning power of bums on seats- especially with European runs factored in – made the club an attractive investment for 49ers Enterprises. The NFL investment firm are expected to take control in the coming weeks.
