STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Anticipated sudden terrorist attacks and continued civil unrest in Spain have prompted the U.S. Department of State to issue a Level 2 Travel Advisory for American citizens traveling abroad.
The warning urges travelers to “exercise increased caution,” as terrorist groups continue plotting possible surprise attacks in Spain, the U.S. Department of State said in its announcement.
“Terrorists may attack with little or no warning, targeting tourist locations, transportation hubs, markets/shopping malls, local government facilities, hotels, clubs, restaurants, places of worship, parks, major sporting and cultural events, educational institutions, airports and other public areas,‘’ the announcement said.
Demonstrations are common, according to the Department of State. “They may take place in response to political or economic issues, on politically significant holidays, and during international events,‘’ the announcement said.
