A travel advisory is warning tourists about the possibility of tourist attacks in one popular European country at the end of its peak tourism season.
The United State Department of State (DOS) has issued a level 2 travel advisory for Italy, advising tourists to exercise increased caution because of terrorism.
“Terrorist attacks are possible in Italy. Terrorists may attack with little or no warning,” the advisory reads. “They may target tourist spots, transport hubs, markets/shopping malls, local government facilities, hotels, clubs, restaurants, places of religious importance, parks, major sporting and cultural events, schools, airports, and other public areas.”
Summer is the peak tourist season in Italy, according to Travel Journal, with most travelers visiting the country from June to August. However, the biggest crowds are often found in Italy in September and October as well, according to travel writer Rick Steves.
Those who choose to travel to Italy should do the following, according to the DOS.
