Expressing concern over the potential misuse of generative AI (GenAI) and deepfakes in the upcoming elections, the European Commission called upon several tech giants under the Digital Services Act (DSA) for information. Microsoft Bing, Facebook, Google Search, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, YouTube, and Elon Musk’s X are among those requested to provide details by the EU. The commission seeks clarification on measures taken to address risks associated with generative AI, including the spread of false information and the viral dissemination of deepfakes, referred to as “hallucinations.” These platforms are required to furnish the requested information to the Commission by April 3, focusing on safeguarding the integrity of elections.
