In a bid to encourage environment-friendly practices, Copenhagen has introduced a new program called CopenPay. Running from July 15 to August 11, the aim is to reward visitors who practice sustainable actions, like litter picking, biking, and using public transport. By showing a proof of their actions, tourists will be able to earn rewards like free lunches, coffee, glasses of wine, museum tours, and kayak rentals.

Mikkel Aaro Hansen, CEO of Wonderful Copenhagen, while speaking to media, said, “With CopenPay, we’re empowering people to experience more of what Copenhagen offers while placing less burden on our planet.” He emphasized that the program seeks to create “meaningful and memorable experiences that are enjoyable and environmentally responsible.”

As of now, a total of 24 local businesses are a part of the CopenPay initiative, offering rewards without any government funding. Copenhagen’s mayor, Sophie Haestorp Andersen, expressed her enthusiasm for the project, stating, “I’m thrilled to see an initiative like CopenPay that combines our rich cultural life with a strong commitment to sustainability.” She believes that the program aligns with the city’s goal to promote sustainable solutions.

By this initiative, Copenhagen is looking forward to set a new standard for sustainable tourism, demonstrating that environmental responsibility and travel can go hand in hand.
