The EU insists it will react in the interests of European businesses, workers and consumers to tariffs imposed on its exports.
It’s after US President Donald Trump indicated he will impose a 25% tariff on imports of steel and aluminium.
The European Union says it has not yet received notification of such a move.
Commission Spokesperson Olaf Gill says tariffs would bring into question the spirit of co-operation that has defined transatlantic relations,
“The EU benefits from being one of the most open economies in the world. the average applied tariff for goods imported into the EU is very low, more than 70% of imports enter the EU at zero tariffs”.
