An award-winning bridge that cost around £86 million to construct gives tourists the amazing opportunity to visit three countries in a day.
The Three Countries Bridge is the world’s longest single-span bridge and crosses the Rhine between the commune of Huningue in France and Weil am Rhein in Germany
This architectural marvel spans the Rhine River all within the metropolitan area of the Swiss city of Basel.
Boasting the title of the world’s longest single-span bridge, it features no central supports in the water and stands as a testament to modern engineering and design, dedicated solely for the use of pedestrians and cyclists.
The bridge stretches an impressive 248 metres (813ft) in length, with its main span reaching 229.4 metres (752ft).
Conceived by the visionary Franco-Austrian architect Dietmar Feichtinger, the bridge was inaugurated in 2007 to much acclaim.
Travel enthusiasts who have ventured across this bridge have taken to platforms like Tripadvisor to share their awe-inspiring experiences.
One visitor commented: “Great opportunity to walk to Germany, France and Switzerland in one day.”
They concluded with praise for the scenic views: “Beautiful view, and easy to do without needing a passport to cross.”
One traveller remarked: “The bridge itself is amazing. That such a large and expensive bridge was built solely for pedestrians and bicycles is enlightening.”
They continued, highlighting the contrast between the sides: “The German side is very industrial, being a large port area. There is a very large, multicultural area that is bedecked with colour.”
Another visitor commented: “This is truly just a bridge but it’s a fun experience to be able to walk from France to Germany and back again.
“It’s also easy to walk or take a tram across the border from Germany into Switzerland so it’s possible to visit three countries in just a few minutes!”
