The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, held a meeting yesterday in New York with the Prime Minister of Morocco, Aziz Akhannouch, with whom he discussed “the management of migratory flows and the commitment to orderly and safe migration” and spoke about the organization of the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted by Spain, Portugal and Morocco.
“It is a pleasure to meet again with the Prime Minister of Morocco, Aziz Akhannouch, with whom we have reviewed the magnificent state of bilateral relations, the best in decades,” Sánchez said on the social network X. The meeting took place on the margins of the High Level Week of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
“We have addressed the management of migratory flows and the commitment to orderly and safe migration,” he continued. “We have also talked about the organization of the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted by Spain, Portugal and Morocco. We are convinced that it will be a success,” he concluded.
Sánchez had met the day before in New York with the president of FIFA, Gianni Infantino, to whom he conveyed that “the Government of Spain continues to work from all areas so that the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted by Spain, Portugal and Morocco, is a success.”
The President of the Government also held meetings with the Secretary General of the UN, António Guterres, with whom he spoke about “the conflicts that persist in Gaza and Ukraine”. “We share our enormous concern about the situation in Lebanon and we call for containment and de-escalation,” he declared. “I have conveyed to him Spain’s determination and coherence in defence of the multilateral system and the United Nations Charter and International Law and International Humanitarian Law,” he concluded.
Separately, Sánchez met in New York with the President of the World Bank, Ajay Banga, to “address collaboration in the Africa Avanza plan and contribute to joint development and prosperity in West Africa.”
“As the host country of the International Conference on Financing for Development, which will be held in Seville in June 2025, we have also discussed the preparatory work and close collaboration to ensure the success of the Conference with concrete and ambitious results,” he explained through the same social network.
