Hearts of Lions coach Bashir Hayford has cited the behaviour of fans and referees at Ghana Premier League centers as the reason fans will continue to watch European football over the local league.
He is saying this because of some incidents in the Ghana Premier League week 28 game against Bechem United, which ended 1-1.
The game at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park was marred by hostility from supporters, prompting Hayford to intervene by striding onto the pitch.
In a widely circulated video, the seasoned coach was captured carrying a chair onto the field, where he proceeded to take a seat during the match.
In an interview with Akoma 87.9 in Kumasi, Hayford clarified that his actions were a direct response to the unacceptable conduct witnessed during the game.
“I have been involved in Ghanaian football for thirty years, and never have I witnessed such behavior where supporters and team officials invade the pitch and threaten referees,” Hayford expressed with dismay. “This is precisely why people prefer to follow European football,” he emphasized.
