Sweden’s Anna Nordqvist has been appointed as European Captain for the 2026 Solheim Cup, which is taking place at Bernardus Golf in the Netherlands.
Nordqvist was a playing vice-captain in 2023 and again in 2024, in what was her ninth time representing Europe in the Solheim Cup. She has been on the winning side five times and is one of Europe’s most successful players. A three-time major winner, she has amassed a further six LPGA titles and four LET titles, including the 2022 Dutch Ladies Open.
Still active on the Tour, 37-year-old Nordqvist plans to keep playing well beyond the 2026 Solheim Cup, ensuring that she can keep a close eye on both her potential team members as well as their opposition.
Winner of 17 of her 35 Solheim Cup matches, Nordqvist commented: “I am so honoured to be appointed as the 2026 European Solheim Cup Captain. Whether we were winning or losing, the Solheim Cup has played such a huge part in my career ever since I made my debut in 2009 in Chicago. The friendships I have made, and the memories created during the nine matches I’ve played, make it so incredibly special to be given the opportunity to be European Captain at my tenth Solheim Cup.”
Speaking from experience after her visit to Bernardus Golf in 2023, she shared: “I feel especially fortunate to be the captain at Bernardus Golf. It’s a superb course for match play with fantastic facilities and a stunning clubhouse, so we couldn’t ask for a better stage for the 20th edition of the Solheim Cup. It’s also super close to Amsterdam, so I think the fans are going to have an amazing experience enjoying its rich culture and the famous warm Dutch hospitality.”
Alexandra Armas, Chief Executive Officer of the Ladies European Tour, commented, “We are delighted to announce Anna as our captain for the 2026 Solheim Cup. She has been such an important member of the European team over the years – both on and off the course – and she was excellent in the role of playing vice-captain last year. She has been a wonderful ambassador for European golf throughout her career, both as an individual and as part of the team, and I can tell you that the news of this appointment will no doubt be extremely popular amongst the players.”
Designed by renowned American golf course architect Kyle Phillips, the acclaimed championship course at Bernardus is a heathland design featuring challenging water hazards and a compact layout. Open to everyone through a day membership, it focuses on providing an exceptional experience and enjoyment. The only rule is ‘there are no rules’ — it’s a place to unwind, play a world-class course with top-tier practice facilities, and enjoy the off-course offerings, including an architecturally stunning clubhouse with a Michelin-star restaurant, spa, and lodge accommodations.
Since its opening in 2018, Bernardus has hosted three editions of the KLM Dutch Open on the DP World Tour (2021-2023) and is ready and well positioned to provide a spectacular stage for the Solheim Cup 2026. As one of the premier events in women’s sports, spectators can look forward to an exceptional experience where sports, entertainment, and hospitality blend seamlessly at the highest level.
The last European edition in 2023 took place in Spain at Finca Cortesin, ending with a dramatic 14-14 tie, with Europe retaining the Solheim Cup, while the USA triumphed 15½ -12½ at the latest instalment in Virginia in 2024.
The 2026 Solheim Cup will be run in partnership with IMG, which was appointed by the LET as the delivery partner of the ‘home’ matches for an initial commitment from 2026 through to the end of 2038.
