Yesterday saw award winners recognised at the 2025 Ladies European Tour Season Launch in London, which brought together partners, promoters, and sponsors of the Tour.
Voted for by the LET members, representatives from four of LET’s events accepted their respective awards, in recognition of the tournament with the best sustainability initiative, player services, course condition, and lastly tournament of the year.
LET member Sára Kousková and Founder and Executive Director of the GEO Foundation, Jonathan Smith, presented the award for Sustainability Initiative 2024, to The Dutch Ladies Open, where the award was accepted by Jelle Sprée, Manager of Events NGF.
The Hilversumsche Golf Club staged the 2024 edition for the second consecutive year, which is a GEO Certified Venue – the NGF only allows venues which are GEO Certified to host their tournaments.
Some of the key initiatives that took place across the week revolved around cycling, water stations, the use of recycled materials and the junior Pro-Am. Cycling is a popular mode of transport in the Netherlands, and this rang true for the tournament as well, with spectators and volunteers in the region encouraged to cycle to the venue. Players, volunteers and spectators were requested to bring their own refillable water bottles, so no plastic bottles of water were handed out or sold, and there were refill stations available for everyone to use on site. Additionally, event materials from the previous year such as flags, banners, and canvases were recycled and turned into new products such as bags which are being given out as gifts in the Pro-Am and to volunteers.
Earlier in the day, Sára Kousková was named GEO Foundation’s Sustainable Golf Champion which marked the third LET player to be recognised for their sustainability efforts, along with Norway’s Suzann Pettersen and France’s Camille Chevalier previously being recognised. Sara has been seen to be stepping forward to demonstrate the sport’s commitment, contribution, and to help raise awareness.
Sara commented: “I’m so passionate about this subject and so having a credible partner, the GEO Foundation, is a great way to formalise a lot of the concepts I have in mind. The main goal is to get even more people on board, raise awareness, and inspire the next generations. We all live such busy lives but even taking small steps to lead a more sustainable life makes such a difference. The Sustainable Golf Champion Program will help me address my unavoidable carbon footprint and offset it through global and local climate and nature projects. In turn this will support me to go out and advocate more efficiently.”
LET player and Board Member Liz Young presented the award for Best Player Services 2024 to La Sella Open, which took place at La Sella Golf Resort in Spain. 2024 marked its second edition on the LET calendar and where Helen Briem secured her maiden LET title.
The award was accepted by Carlos Garcia, La Sella Golf Director. The event received high recognition from players during the season for its high level of service available to members from onsite logistics, catering, shuttle services and overall player experience.
Carlos commented: “We are delighted to win this award. This is very important to us because we create the tournament for the players, and this award means we’re on the right path and doing the right thing. We push it to be the best it can be for all those involved with the LET.”
Catriona Matthew presented the award for Best Course Condition 2024 to Carton House, Fairmont, which hosted the KPMG Women’s Irish Open. The promoters, Simon Honan and Jeff Scollard from ForeFront Group accepted the award. The course received high praise for being in top condition, with the green staff working efficiently with LET’s operations and refereeing teams.
The KPMG Women’s Irish Open also came top in a second category, clinching Tournament of the Year 2024. The award was presented to Simon Honan by Alexandra Armas, LET CEO. Following the success of the 2024 tournament, which saw a record-breaking 37,000 spectators, the LET will return in 2025 from 30th June to 6th July, on Carton House, Fairmont’s O’Meara Course. The tournament organisers have also announced an increased prize fund of €450,000.
Simon Honan, Championship Director, ForeFront Group, commented on the win: “It’s an absolute pleasure to accept this award on behalf of the KPMG Women’s Irish Open. It’s been a 12-month long project for us, and it’s a true testament to the incredible team, volunteers, and partners who made the event possible. It shows the hard work that goes into delivering the tournament to provide the highest quality player services and experience across all aspects. We’re looking forward to the 2025 edition.”
