The Italian-American actress Isabella Rossellini will receive the European Achievement in World Cinema award at this year’s European Film Awards.
The 72-year-old will be presented with the award, which honours her life’s work, in Lucerne, Switzerland in early December, the European Film Academy announced on Tuesday.
The academy praised Rossellini’s “outstanding body of work” since 1979, which includes roles in David Lynch’s “Blue Velvet,” Peter Weir’s “Fearless” and David O. Russell’s “Joy,” among others.
She is also known for her work with other eminent directors, including Robert Zemeckis, Robert Wilson, Taylor Hackford, Marjane Satrapi and Guy Maddin. Besides film, Rossellini is a successful television actress and filmmaker.
Born to Italian film director Roberto Rossellini and Swedish actress Ingrid Bergman, the academy said Rossellini has worked throughout her life to preserve and celebrate the work of her parents, and is also passionate about wildlife protection.
The Berlin-based European Film Academy was founded in 1989 to promote European cinema and honour the work of its 5,000 members.
The European Achievement in World Cinema award has previously been awarded, among others, to Danish director Susanne Bier for her film “After the Wedding” and British actor Ralph Fiennes for his role in “Schindler’s List.”
