In an interview with retired footballer Romário, Neymar (32) has opened up on his relationship with Kylian Mbappé (25) during their shared time at Paris Saint-Germain.
Neymar and Mbappé arrived in the French capital in the same transfer window as the most expensive and second most expensive player in the world. It was an attacking tandem built to topple European football’s power structure and help PSG claim their ambition for a Champions League trophy.
Their on-field partnership led to five league titles and an appearance in the 2020 Champions League final, but would end with reports that the two had fallen out. Since leaving PSG ahead of the 2023/24 season, Neymar has taken multiple swipes at Mbappé and blamed the Frenchman’s ego for his exit.
In the interview with Romario, Neymar returned to this idea stating “We had a little fight but in the beginning when we arrived he was a boy that was important. I used to joke and call him Golden Boy… I told him he was going to be one of the best.” Neymar points to the arrival of Messi as the turning point he laughs telling Romario that he thinks Mbappé “became a little jealous. He didn’t want to share me with anyone.”
