Russia-Ukraine war: The Russia-Ukraine war, which began in February 2022, has become one of the most biggest conflicts in recent history of mankind, reshaping geopolitics, economies, and global alliances. Rooted in longstanding tensions, the war is not just a territorial dispute but also a clash of ideologies and power dynamics. Here’s all the updates.
According to current reports from Ukraine’s media, they’re claiming Russia has managed to secure more weaponry from North Korea. Furthermore, it’s suggested that these newly acquired arms are currently in transit towards Kursk.
From Russia’s perspective, the war is framed as a defensive measure to counter NATO’s eastward expansion and protect Russian-speaking populations in Ukraine. The annexation of Crimea in 2014 and support for separatist regions in Donetsk and Luhansk were early signs of Moscow’s intent to exert influence over Ukraine, which it views as a critical buffer against Western dominance.
Ukraine is growing increasingly uneasy over Russia’s actions in Donetsk, Kherson, and Zaporizhia, which is pushing them to more fervently seek NATO membership. There are whispers mounting from the Slovakian Prime Minister’s office, casting shadows of suspicion over Ukraine’s attempts to solidify its NATO membership. These include accusatory echoes that imply President Zelensky tried his hand at sweetening the deal with Robert Fico through bribery.
The Kremlin said on Tuesday (December 10) that the Ukraine war would continue until the goals set by President Vladimir Putin were achieved by military action or by negotiation.
Putin has demanded that Ukraine abandon its ambition to join NATO and withdraw fully from four regions of the country that Russia has claimed as its own – terms Kyiv has rejected as tantamount to surrender.
“The special military operation will end when all the objectives set by the president and commander-in-chief have been achieved,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters, using Moscow’s term for the conflict.
“These goals can be achieved as a result of the special military operation or a result of relevant negotiations.”
Peskov said no talks between Moscow and Kyiv were currently under way because “the Ukrainian side refuses any negotiations.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy on Monday made the case for a diplomatic settlement to the war and raised the idea of foreign troops being deployed in Ukraine until it could join NATO.
