With Serie A sides Atalanta and Fiorentina making it to the final of the Europa League and the Conference League, there is a possibility of Italy having nine teams in European competitions next season.

As of now, Atalanta are fifth in the Serie A table and occupy a Champions League spot. Fiorentina are ninth and they aren’t in a European spot at all, table wise. Dale Johnson has reported that if Fiorentina win the Conference League by beating Olympiakos in the final, Italy will get nine teams in Europe next season, if La Viola finish ninth of below.

In that case, there will be five Champions League teams and three Europa League teams (including Fiorentina) and one Conference League team. So essentially, there is still a chance that Napoli play in European competitions but it could depend on how Fiorentina fare in their next few games.

Atalanta’s Europa League win will not have an impact on the scenario as they would anyway have sealed a European spot owing to their finish inside the European places in the Serie A.
