Paris and Berlin, two of Europe’s most iconic capitals, are now closer than ever thanks to a new direct high-speed train route launching on December 16.
For the first time, travelers will be able to journey directly between the city centres of these bustling metropolises in just eight hours, offering a fast, eco-friendly alternative to flying.
The long-anticipated service, operated by Germany’s Deutsche Bahn, promises daily departures at competitive prices, with tickets starting at just €59 (£49) one way.
Until now, daytime travel between Paris and Berlin required a connection, taking between nine and 10.5 hours.
The ÖBB Nightjet overnight train, another option, takes over 13 hours and only runs three times a week.
In contrast, the new high-speed ICE train will operate daily, departing Paris Gare de l’Est at 9.55am and arriving at Berlin Hauptbahnhof at 6.03pm.
Return trips will leave Berlin at 11.54am, reaching Paris at 7.55pm.
The route will stop at major cities like Strasbourg, Karlsruhe and Frankfurt, making it a convenient option for travelers across the region.
Rail operators have hailed the service as the first to link the two capitals “from city centre to city centre.”
This new rail connection comes at a time when Europe is doubling down on efforts to promote carbon-neutral travel.
Alain Krakovitch, managing director of TGV-Intercites, said: “This creation of a connection contributes to a common objective of our two countries: to promote carbon-free mobility.”
“Compared to the plane, the [train] journey between Berlin and Paris generates only one hundredth of the CO2 emissions.”
Launching just in time for the Christmas season, the Paris-Berlin train route offers a seamless and sustainable way to travel between two of Europe’s most festive cities.
With ticket prices as low as €59, it’s an affordable and comfortable alternative to flying, allowing travelers to soak in the scenery and avoid the hassle of airports.
