Money-saving experts at Savoo have delved into the details of upcoming flights and travel trends for 2025 to find the cheapest flights, as well as top tips for getting your holiday in under budget.
Spain, despite being home to some of the most popular cities for Brits to holiday in, earned not one but two spots on the list of cheapest return prices.
The seaside Costa del Sol took first place, with return flights going as low as £51.
It takes roughly the same amount of time to fly to Costa del Sol from London as it does to get you to Manchester via train, only with a hefty price difference as the money-saving experts noted an average one-way train up north costs £54.50.
Mallorca also made the list with potential return flights from £62 if you pick your times and dates right.
One of the more high profile destinations on the list is the capital city of the Czech Republic, Prague, with return flights starting at £57. Including average hotel prices, cheap and mid-range food to keep you going as well as some beers and coffees over a weekend trip will set you back £254.27 according to the money experts.
Krakow flights can also get to a staggering low of £59.50, while Warsaw’s slightly pricier option stands at £64.30. Both Polish cities have also been recognised as budget-friendly options by Savoo, with Krakow and Warsaw ranking second and third for the cheapest long weekend escapes at £231.57 and £242.60 respectively, covering hotels, meals, and beverages.
Slovakia’s capital, Bratislava, makes the top five with affordable return flights at £63.40. The city also boasts being marginally less expensive than Prague for a short break, with a three-day trip costing around £267.89.
The list continues with Budapest in Hungary, Vilnius in Lithuania, Riga in Latvia, and Lisbon in Portugal completing the top 10, all offering return flights between £65 and £71. The experts cautioned that while off-the-beaten-path destinations like Bratislava may consistently offer cheaper flights, more tourist-heavy spots may fluctuate in price but there are still ways to beat the cost of your getaway.
To save some cash on airfare, the experts suggest avoiding peak times such as Fridays or school holidays when prices soar due to demand. For those willing to take a risk, they advise: “Last-minute deals can save you a ton of money, so if you’re brave, try to hold off booking until a couple of weeks before you want to go.”
The experts continued: “Consider an airport close by. For example, if you’re headed to Orlando, you don’t just need to fly into Orlando International Airport. Both Melbourne and Tampa have airports with flights from the UK, which can cost a lot less.”
They also recommend looking into layovers, as these can often be up to 50% cheaper than direct flights, although it might take a bit longer to reach your destination.
Don’t forget about those voucher codes, discounts, and comparison sites which can be a goldmine for cutting costs. The experts noted that using an incognito tab when searching for flights can dodge browser cookies that may show inflated prices to customers constantly returning to the same flights.
