Milan suffered a 2-1 defeat at Fiorentina in Serie A on Sunday after goals from Yacine Adli and Albert Gudmundsson sealed the points in a clash with three missed penalties as David de Gea twice saved spot-kicks to help the hosts.
In a pulsating encounter of near-misses and tense moments, De Gea and the Milan goalkeeper, Mike Maignan, pulled off breathtaking penalty saves. De Gea kept out spot-kicks from Theo Hernández and Tammy Abraham, while Maignan denied Moise Kean.
Adli broke the deadlock for Fiorentina with a low shot from the edge of the box that ricocheted off the far post and into the net 10 minutes before half-time. On the hour Christian Pulisic equalised with a perfect volley before Gudmundsson’s strike in the 73rd minute put Fiorentina back in the lead.
Emotions ran high in the final moments as the Fiorentina coach, Raffaele Palladino, was sent off for protesting, and Hernández was also shown a red card in added time for arguing with the referee.
Juventus conceded their first Serie A goal as a late Razvan Marin penalty snatched a 1-1 draw for visitors Cagliari. Dusan Vlahovic put Juventus ahead from the spot in the 15th minute but Juve, despite dominating for most of the game, were unable to find a second goal, and were made to pay two minutes from time.

Bayern launched their own comeback three minutes later and levelled through Dayot Upamecano’s shot from close range after a goalmouth scramble. The visitors went back in front through Michael Olise’s superb left-foot strike in the 53rd before Marmoush grabbed the late equaliser.
Bayern have 14 points and lead the standings on goal difference ahead of RB Leipzig, who were 1-0 winners at Heidenheim earlier on Sunday.
Lyon condemned fan violence at their home game against Nantes in Ligue 1. Amid reports that clashes broke out at Groupama Stadium between two groups of Lyon supporters, the club said the incidents were “unworthy” of the seven-time French champions. According to local media, one supporter was stabbed in the thigh during the match. Lyon won 2-0.
Paris Saint-Germain lost out on first place after a 1-1 draw at Nice, with Luis Enrique’s side now two points behind Monaco. The Nice defender Ali Al-Abdi opened the scoring six minutes before half-time with a powerful shot but the visitors got back into the game when Ousmane Dembélé crossed for Nuno Mendes to equalise seven minutes after the break.
Robert Lewandowski’s first-half hat-trick guided the La Liga leaders Barcelona to a 3-0 win at Alavés as the Polish striker extended his lead at the top of the league’s scoring charts. Barcelona wasted no time in going in front when Lewandowski headed home from a Raphinha free-kick in the seventh minute before the Brazilian winger provided another assist on a counterattack for the 36-year-old striker to grab his second.
Lewandowski completed his hat-trick in the 32nd minute for his 10th La Liga goal in nine games this season, but despite their dominance Barcelona could not score another as Antonio Sivera stood strong in the Alavés goal. The victory moved Barcelona to 24 points, three points clear of Real Madrid, while Alavés are 12th with 10 points.
