The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) have formed a four-year broadcast partnership, giving EBU exclusive broadcasting rights for major FIBA tournaments, including EuroBasket and World Cup qualifiers. The alliance aims to boost audience engagement and increase access to high-quality basketball content by providing broad coverage to public service broadcasters across Europe.
This partnership will offer free-to-air access to premium men’s and women’s national team events, starting in November 2025. The four-year deal will cover the public service television, radio, and digital platforms of 19 EBU members, including Belgium, Cyprus, Czechia, Estonia, Finland, Georgia, Hungary, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, Türkiye, and Ukraine.
EBU members will also engage in significant marketing and promotion of FIBA events and their national teams. Frank Leenders, FIBA’s Media & Marketing Services Director General, commented on the partnership’s significance: “This partnership underscores the growing popularity of basketball globally, especially for fans who are passionate about supporting their national teams.”
Leenders further noted, “The expertise and reach of the European Broadcasting Union provide a quality platform to boost basketball in Europe with even more games and more exciting action for existing fans and new audiences.”
This collaboration marks a crucial step in promoting basketball at the national team level and enhancing the overall viewing experience for fans across the continent.
