Thursday night sees the return of the Europa League and the Conference League as the last 16 knockout stage action gets underway across the continent!

Football tipster Feargal Brennan has dived into the markets for five value bets as part of a cracking acca involving Ajax, Roma and Athletic Club.

Ajax v Eintracht Frankfurt – Ajax to win

Ajax have built up a healthy eight-point lead at the top of the Dutch Eredivisie and they can really focus on a potential Europa League title push in 2025.

A mixed first phase meant they dropped into the new playoffs, and needed extra time to eventually battle past Union Saint-Gilloise, to land a tie with Eintracht Frankfurt.

However, they come into this game in really strong form with seven wins from their last eight games, and that is also mirrored by seven wins in their last eight home games split across all competitions.

8pm: Roma v Athletic Club – Oihan Sancet to score

Roma hosting Athletic Club catches the eye as one of the ties of the round at this point in the Europa League. The home side have won five of their last six games and they are unbeaten in 11 at home in all competitions.

Athletic Club lost a tight battle at Atletico Madrid over the weekend, to end a six-game unbeaten run, so a result pick looks tricky despite Roma having an edge.

Oihan Sancet is the surprise candidate challenging in the La Liga Golden Boot race this season, in joint fourth spot, with 13 goals scored from midfield. With six goals in his last four games – he looks worth a shout to score or assist in Rome.

Bodo/Glimt v Olympiakos – Over 2.5 goals scored

Bodo/Glimt successfully retained their Norwegian top-flight title at the end of 2024 but the new domestic season does not start until March.

Since the end of that campaign, they have lost just one of the five Europa League games they have played, with four of those five clashes featuring over 2.5 goals scored.

Visitors Olympiakos will wait on late fitness news on the Europa League’s top scorer this season, Ayoub El-Kaabi, but the Greek side still carry a goal threat and three of their last four games have seen over 2.5 goal scored in total.

Celje v Lugano – Over 2.5 goals scored

Dropping into the Conference League, we have two teams in contrasting current form, with hosts Celje winning three of their last four games and visitors Lugano losing three of their last four outings.

However, the step up in opposition for Celje will provide a fresh challenge for the home team, despite their strong results of late.

Goals again look to be on the Thursday agenda with Celje’s last seven home games breaking the over 2.5 barrier.

Pafos v Djurgardens – Both teams to score: Yes

Pafos knocked domestic rivals Omonia Nicosia out in the playoffs and they face a Djugardens side who have not played a competitive league or European game since December.

The hosts conceded in both games against Nicosia, but managed to outscore them on aggregate, and Djugardens scored in all six of their Conference League games in the first half of the campaign.
