“This summer, Ryanair will operate 72 routes in total, providing customers with increased options for memorable travel experiences during this incredible season.
“Despite Lisbon’s lack of growth due to artificial capacity constraints, Ryanair remains committed to regional Portugal, including Porto with 12 based aircraft and more than 4,600 total jobs created.
Porto is home to Douro Valley which is a UNESCO-listed wine region known for its vineyards and breathtaking landscapes.
Tourists can visit the legendary Port wine cellars like Graham’s, Sandeman, Taylor’s, or Ferreira for tastings.
The city has been dubbed as a “perfect holiday” by several travellers on TripAdvisor Forum.
One person commented: “This was a family trip, i.e., parents, daughter, and son in law and it was the best overseas trip yet. In Porto, the highlights were the Ribeiro, wine caves, Quality Inn Hotel, shopping, and the local population, whom we found friendly, helpful, and patient with me as I practiced my Portuguese.
“Best of all was the full day boat trip up the Douro to Pinhao, this is a must for all visitors to Porto. A visit by bus to Braga with its fountains and to see ‘Bom Jesus’ cathedral, take the funicular if you want to save yourself a lot of walking as there is plenty of that once at the top.
“In Braga I had the best Francesinha ever, you visit Braga then you must have one of these. The last place visited was Barcelos by rail, this again is well worth a visit, the best outdoor market I have ever been to, absolutely enormous, oh yes and of course it is the home of the famous cockerel, buy your gifts here.”
A second user commented: “Porto is an interesting place to see. It is a quiet old city with nice architecture. On the river shores are a few terraces with a lovely view over the other shore where there are a lot of Porto wine shops.
“On some of them, you can see how the wine is kept and processed and also you can taste it. Some of them provide free transport from the bridge to their place.
“Also, you can buy wine, although you can buy the same wine from Lisbon’s airport at almost the same price (the difference is about a few euros).”
