European airlines are set to resume services to Israel after the start of a ceasefire in the long-running war in Gaza took effect on Sunday (19 January).
Many carriers cancelled services to Tel Aviv following the Hamas attacks in October 2023 with suspensions being regularly extended over the past 15 months as the fighting intensified in the region. Although Israeli carrier El Al has continued to operate routes between Europe and Israel during this period.
Lufthansa Group, which also owns Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Eurowings and Swiss, said it would restart flights to Tel Aviv from 1 February 2025 across its airlines. Although services to Tehran will remain cancelled up to and including 14 February and routes to Beirut will not resume until after 28 February.
Hungary-based budget carrier Wizz Air already restarted flights to Tel Aviv last Wednesday (15 January), ahead of the ceasefire coming into force at the weekend.
The carrier operates to Ben Gurion International Airport from multiple European airports including London Luton, Budapest, Vienna, Milan, Warsaw and Athens. Wizz’s flights to Amman in neighbouring Jordan also resumed on Thursday (16 January).
British Airways is also set to resume services to Israel from 5 April, according to media reports in Israel. The UK carrier will initially operate one flight per day to Tel Aviv.
Air France expects to restart its service between Paris Charles de Gaulle and Tel Aviv on Friday (24 January). But sister carrier KLM’s flights to Israel are currently suspended until 29 March.
Another budget carrier easyJet has said it plans to resume flights to Tel Aviv from 1 June, with services from Luton, Amsterdam, Berlin, Basel, Geneva, Nice and Milan. Rival Ryanair is also expecting to run a full schedule to Tel Aviv this summer, according to reports.
