United Airlines is to increase capacity on flights between Ireland and the US by more than 40 per cent as part of its summer 2025 schedule to Europe.
The carrier said that it would double frequencies between Dublin and Washington DC’s Dulles Airport from one to two daily services from 29 March, as well as introducing Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft of its Dublin-Chicago O’Hare route.
United also operates daily flights from Dublin to Newark Liberty International Airport, as well as seasonal summer services from Shannon to Newark and Chicago O’Hare.
Karolien De Hertogh, United’s director of sales for the UK and Ireland, said the “substantial increase in capacity” from Dublin meant it would offer more seats from the Irish capital than any other US carrier next summer.
“For summer 2025, our customers in Ireland can also benefit from seamless connectivity via our hubs in New York/Newark, Chicago O’Hare and Washington DC, to or from over 150 onward destinations across the Americas,” said De Hertogh.
The move is part of United’s expansion of transatlantic services in 2025, which will include new routes from Newark to the Spanish city of Bilbao and Faro in Portugal, as well as from Washington Dulles to Nice and Venice.
Another US carrier JetBlue has announced its first route to Spain for summer 2025. The seasonal service between Boston Logan International and Madrid’s Barajas Airport will operate daily between 22 May and 24 October.
JetBlue is also introducing a daily summer service between Boston and Edinburgh, which will run from 23 May to 25 October.
Next summer, JetBlue will serve seven airports in six European cities from its Boston hub. It already flies year-round to London Heathrow and Paris Charles de Gaulle, alongside summer routes to Amsterdam Schiphol, Dublin and London Gatwick.
The airline will also operate flights to five European airports from New York’s JFK Airport in summer 2025. This includes year-round services to Schiphol, Paris CDG and Heathrow, as well as seasonal routes to Dublin and Edinburgh.
