Travel experts at Emerald Cruises recently conducted a survey of 500 UK travellers and analysed online search data to determine the most popular winter destinations among Brits.
By reviewing travel searches from September 2023 to February 2024, they identified the top locations that are trending for winter holidays. Portugal, Copenhagen, and Vietnam emerged as the leading destinations, with Portugal topping the list due to its stunning landscapes and cultural richness.
Specifically, the Douro River region in Portugal attracted 201,000 searches per month, making it a top choice for a winter getaway.
Copenhagen closely followed, with 165,000 searches, owing to its festive atmosphere and charm.

So for a city break its very relaxing.”
Stupotran Immingham recounted: “What a wonderful experience my visit to Copenhagen was, armed with pocket guide I set off on my tour of the city, marvellous, historic buildings, royal palace, great food & friendly locals. A little expensive but still a great place to visit.
“If you fancy something a little different, than I can recommend an evening tour of the canals, very enjoyable & gives you the opportunity to view the city from a different view.”
JilEssex highlighted: “I loved this place. It was clean, v. little traffic (but beware the pushbikes as its easy to stray off the pavement into the cycle lane). The people were so friendly and helpful and there were lots of things to see and do.”
Charlotte J recommended: “Copenhagen is a relatively small city, easily managed by foot or bike. Free bikes exists but can be a little difficult to find. Alternatively you can rent a bike from one of the many bike shops located throughout the city.
“A good way to start your sightseeing is to take a canal tour, very reasonably priced, with commentary in several languages.
“This takes in most of the major sights, including the little mermaid (which is very little) and gives you a good orientation of the city.”
