Winter is well and truly here and the temperatures are plummeting in Britain.

Strong winds and heavy rain are currently battering many areas of the country as Storm Darragh sweeps the nation.

The grey skies and power cuts may have you hoping for some last minute winter sun before Christmas.

Those seeker warmer weather may want to consider the island of Cyprus.

The Mediterranean destination is still seeing temperatures of up to 22C even in December, and these are set to continue over the coming weeks.

And flights to the island also remain very affordable, with Skyscanner reporting prices as low as £21 to the island.

The two major airports on the island, Larnaca and Paphos, are served by direct flights from regional airports across the UK.

The flight from Britain takes just over four hours, with numerous airlines flying there. 

The island is a popular destination for British holidaymakers seeking beaches and sunshine.  

As well as the beaches and sunshine, other attractions include the capital city of Nicosia.

Many people also flock to the resort town of Ayia Napa, which has beaches, famous nightlife and an underwater museum.

Holidaymakers may also want to cross the border into the self-declared Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, which also boasts its own beaches and pleasant towns including Kyrenia and Famagusta.
