2024 has been a big year for Angel Gomes (24), however, he will finish it looking on from the sidelines, according to a report from L’Équipe.
The Lille OSC midfielder, a mainstay under Paulo Fonseca and now new manager Bruno Genesio, broke into the England set-up this year, earning his first caps for the Three Lions under interim manager Lee Carsley. He has been part of a LOSC side that currently sit fourth in Ligue 1, one point away from third-placed Olympique de Marseille, whilst the Ligue 1 side have also enjoyed a strong start to their UEFA Champions League campaign, notably beating Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.
However, ahead of this week’s encounter against Bologna, they have suffered a blow. Gomes missed the weekend win over Stade Rennais and he won’t make the trip to the Emilia-Romagna region either. As per L’Équipe, the England international is suffering from a calf injury and will therefore miss several weeks of action, putting him out until after the winter break. We won’t be seeing Gomes, therefore, until 2025.
