This full-time traveller has been to 163 countries, but she says one of the most popular is one of her least favourites.
Alyssa Ramos, 36, has been travelling the world for 10 years. She first embarked on her solo travel journey after quitting her job at age 26.
She runs a blog, YouTube channel, and Instagram account to document her adventures, and her followers are keen to get all the travel tips they can from her.
Speaking to Express.co.uk, Alyssa said: “I find the good in almost every single place I’ve been to – even if it’s stressful or logistically challenging. There are only maybe two places that have just been so complicated that I can’t actually even recommend them.
“The only place I can really think of that I had a bad experience is going to be an unpopular opinion because everyone loves it there – Iceland.
“But so far, two times I’ve gone there by myself, and people mistake me for a sex worker, which is no shame at all to anyone who is a sex worker, but it’s the only place in the world where that happened twice in a row.
“People came up to me and asked me how much I cost. I don’t know why – I went there by myself. I think it’s because people are used to seeing everyone all bundled up because of the cold weather.”
More recently, she visited Comoros, a small island near Madagascar. She said: “It was just so impossible to find any help there or anyone to arrange a tour. It wasn’t the best experience, and finding a way to get around was impossible, so I didn’t love it.”
Alyssa added that she also had a similar experience in Bangladesh, which she said was “logistically complicated and chaotic for a solo female traveller.”
The travel blogger became nomadic after three years of travelling and hasn’t looked back since. She has now been nomadic for eight years, and she bought her own place in Mexico two years ago, which she uses as a home base.
She told Express.co.uk: “Since I started out, there has been an uprise in solo female travellers through social media. When I first started out I could count maybe 10 of us that I knew of. Now it’s tens of thousands so that’s really awesome.”
The travel blogger has gained a huge following for her insights into many countries, and she continues to share her travel tips.
