Richmond Park MP Sarah Olney ‘urged’ the Government to strengthen the UK’s ties with Europe and extend opportunities for young people with a youth mobility scheme.
At Cabinet Office questions yesterday (24 October), Olney, who is also the Liberal Democrat’s Cabinet Office Spokesperson says prior to Brexit more than 15 million young people travelled to Europe as part of the Erasmus program with millions more travelling to work and live on the continent.
The Lib Dems believe that stand alone treaties like the Erasmus program scheme are the first steps towards rebuilding Britain’s broken relationship with Europe, paving the way towards true reintegration.
Olney commented: “For years, the Conservatives not only ignored our closest neighbours but treated them with contempt.
“The hard Brexit deal which Johnson forced on the public caused a generation of young people to miss out.
“It’s time that Labour delivered the change they promised and rebuild our ties with Europe starting with a new commitment to give the next generation the chance to thrive.”
