Vienna (AUSTRIA) – Austria (men) and Spain (women) get wins over Serbia and France respectively to win FIBA 3×3 Europe Cup 2024 on August 25.
Austria (men) just couldn’t be stopped in front of the Vienna crowd. After a slight setback in pool play, they bounced back and booked themselves a final spot against the Serbian Giants.
A back-and-forth affair all the way, it was the Nico Kaltenbrunner-led Austria that came away as victors 18-17, earning their first ever Europe Cup win.
Spain (women) were on fire all tournament, going unbeaten all the way before handling business against long standing rivals France. They showcased immense defensive ability and caught fire on offense to come away with a 19 – 11 victory to claim their second Europe Cup gold.
In the bronze medal games, 2023 Europe Cup winners Netherlands (women) won 21 – 14 against Poland. Noortje Driessen was the offensive hub yet again as she put up 11 points in the Bronze winning effort.
Lithuania (men) put up an incredible fight to battle back against Switzerland to pick up bronze. Titas Janusevicius, who had been on fire all event, came in clutch once again as his 11 points proved to be the difference.
Nico Kaltenbrunner was Austria’s heart and soul in Vienna as he put up 38 points in their storybook journey to European supremacy. He was named the tournament’s MVP as he led the men’s team of the tournament with Strahinja Stojacic who was key to Serbia’s road to silver and Titas Janusevicius who shot the lights out for Lithuania, putting up an event-high 42 points in their path to bronze.
Sandra Ygueravide was on fire offensively all tournament, finishing as top scorer with 42 points, including 6 in the final. She earned herself MVP honors as she headlined the women’s team of the tournament alongside Marie-Eve Paget who was a force for France in their silver medaling quest and Janis Ndiba who was the key to the Netherlands’ bronze.
The IWBF 3×3 Europe Cup 2024, which took place in conjunction with the event, had their medals earned as well. Spain (women) and Austria (men) won the IWBF 3×3 Europe Cup 2024.
In the men’s side, Poland won silver and Switzerland earned bronze. In the women’s side, Switzerland took silver and Germany won bronze.
