Selin Wei, a senior double majoring in economics and finance at UA Little Rock, traveled to Berlin, Germany, to delve into the intricacies of European business and economics, gaining firsthand experience in one of the continent’s most dynamic cities.
Wei, a member of the Donaghey Scholars Honors Program, participated in the European Business and Economics Programme at the Berlin School of Economics and Law from June 22 to July 20. The program provides students with an insight into the structures and trends that influence European business and economics today.
“The study abroad program was very helpful to me in learning more about economics from an international perspective,” Wei said. “Previously, I’ve learned a lot about how economics works in the United States. This class allowed me to narrow my focus on the European Union and what decisions affect economics in the European Union.”
During her four-week course, Wei studied the values, politics, and economics of the European Union, cultural diversity and cross-cultural management, marketing of the automotive industry, and German culture and society.
The study abroad program included many excursions around Berlin, including a tour of the BMW Berlin Plant and the Charlottenburg Palace.
“It was a very insightful way to learn more about Berlin and its history,” Wei said.
At UA Little Rock, Wei is also a part of the Finance and Economics Association. After she graduates from UA Little Rock in May 2025, Wei is interested in becoming a financial analyst or an economist. Overall, she would love to find a way to help people embrace financial wellness.
“I am interested in helping people learn about financial literacy,” she said. “I love the idea of helping people learn about budgeting, saving money, and how to retire.”
