Lille OSC are one step closer to qualification for the UEFA Champions League proper after they beat Slavia Prague in the first-leg of their play-off.
As a result of the Olympic Games, Lille were once again forced to play away from the Stade Pierre Mauroy and instead welcomed the Czech side in Valenciennes on Tuesday night. LOSC took the lead early in the second-half thanks to Jonathan David’s strike from inside the box after Hákon Arnar Haraldsson had dinked a deft ball around the Slavia Prague defence and into the path of the Canadian striker.
That lead was then doubled in the 77th minute when Edon Zhegrova beat his man, drove into the box and slotted past Antonin Kinský. It means that Les Dogues head to Czechia next week in control of the tie and on the verge of qualification to the Champions League, following their fourth-place finish in Ligue 1 last season.
