England must not underestimate the fighting spirit of an opposition who have the chance to make history on Saturday.
The stakes will be high ahead of their Euro 2024 quarter-final clash against Switzerland, who have the chance to set a new national record at a major tournament.
Switzerland have never made it to the semi-final of a major tournament and they were knocked out at this stage of Euro 2020 too.
But after an impressive run at Euro 2024 so far, former Swiss midfielder Raphael Wicky believes this could finally be their year.
He told talkSPORT: “I think there is the momentum to do it. I think this is the momentum where this team works really well together. This is the momentum where everyone believes that this team can write a new history. Yes, our history, our past history is that we’ve never gone past the quarter-final.
“But right now, with the way the team plays, the way the team works as a unit, the whole euphoria in the country, the belief of everyone, I think this is the moment where we can write a new history. And I think everyone really believes that. The players talk differently than five, six, seven years ago. I mean, we’re a small country, don’t forget that. We’re a small country. Our league is a development league. So for us to go into these tournaments is big.
“But now going to the tournaments and going out of groups is not enough. And this year, obviously, everything is prepared to go further. But it’s going to be a hard game for us, for sure.”
