Horse Racing more popular with sports fans than Cricket, Rugby Union and Golf in the UK – survey finds
Horse Racing is officially more popular with sports fans in the UK than Cricket, Rugby Union and Golf, according to Betway’s survey.
Featuring more than 1,000 participants* from England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales, Betway posed the question to fans: “Which of the following sports, if any, would you most prefer to see live?”
As well as Racing, Golf, Cricket and Rugby, participants were also given the options of Football and Tennis to determine which sport was the most popular in the UK.
With 40% of the vote, Football came out as the top sport followed by Tennis with 15% of the votes. However, Horse Racing then came in at third with 13.3% of the vote.
Cricket had 12.8% of the votes, whilst Rugby had 12.7% and Golf came in last with just 6.4% – establishing a firm Top Five of popularity with Racing locked firmly in the mainstream for popularity.
When breaking down the results of the survey by gender, it became apparent there were slight discrepancies between men and women of the UK in regards to which sports people wanted to watch live.
Whilst football remained the most popular sport across both genders, Cricket was the second most popular sport for Men and Tennis was the second most popular sport amongst female fans. In both instances, Horse Racing remained the third most popular sport.
When looking at each of the countries specifically, it becomes more apparent that Racing remains a key sport for fans across Britain.
