Over the years, the Philadelphia 76ers have taken a flier on countless international prospects. On of their more recent overseas prospects got a shout out from one of the top stars in the game today.
During one of his media availabilities during All-Star weekend, Nikola Jokic was asked to name his all European starting five. While he provided some obvious names like Luka Doncic, the two-time MVP also named a former Sixer. That being Dario Saric.
Saric was a lottery pick in the 2014 NBA Draft by the Orlando Magic, with the Sixers acquiring him in a trade later that evening. It took two seasons for him to make his NBA debut, but the 6-foot-10 forward did not disappoint.
In his rookie season, Saric averaged 12.9 PPG, 6.3 RPG, 2.2 APG. He was a finalist for Rookie of the Year alongside Joel Embiid, but the award ended up going to Malcolm Brogdon.
Saric ended up playing in 172 games for the Sixers across two-and-a-half seasons. His time in Philly came to an end in 2019 when he was dealt to the Minnesota Timberwolves as part of the Jimmy Butler trade.
Since leaving the Sixers, Saric has suited up for multiple franchises. He is currently on the Golden State Warriors, where he has been a key player for them off the bench. This season, Saric is averaging 9.4 PPG and 5.1 RPG while shooting a career-high 40.2% from beyond the arc.
Saric most recently returned to Philly two weeks ago as a member of the Warriors. He posted nine points, three rebounds, and two assists in a blowout victory for Golden State.
